Continental to charge $65 to check in two luggage items
FRIDAY, JULY 15: Continental Airlines are to slap a $65 charge on passengers checking in two bags on trips from Bermuda, the company announced yesterday.
The airline will impose a $25 charge for one bag and $40 for a second on some economy class tickets bought from today for travel on or after August 15.
Previously, the first bag was free, with a $30 charge for a second.
Rebecca Cunha of Global Travel, Hamilton, said the increases were most likely driven by the cost of fuel surcharges.
She said: “People will get upset and make a fuss about it, but I see all the airlines doing something similar in the future.”
Continental passengers travelling in first and business classes, and Elite customers, will be exempt.
US Airways charges $25 for a first checked bag and $35 for a second. Delta and American Airlines allow one checked bag free with a $30 charge for a second.
British Airways does not charge passengers leaving Bermuda with two checked bags.[[In-content Ad]]
