SUNDAY, MAY 13: A Gombey will make the first pitch at Monday night’s Boston Red Sox game as the Department of Tourism launches its 2012 promotion with the baseball team.

‘Bermuda Day’ takes place at Boston’s Fenway Park, with Shawn Caisey of the performing Gombey group opening up the game.

Wayne Furbert, Minister of Business Development and Tourism, will also join local artists in singing the US National Anthem.

The annual partnership with the Boston Red Sox highlights Bermuda through cultural events, promotions and industry networking functions.

This takes place via Boston Red Sox platforms such as digital ads, in-stadium signage, e-mail blasts and billboard mentions.

A Government spokeswoman said: “Throughout tomorrow, tourism representatives will spearhead an aggressive guerrilla marketing campaign targeted toward commuters surrounding the Park area.

“The campaign will feature Gombey dance performances, as well as BDOT ambassadors providing collateral material to consumers with information on travel from Boston to Bermuda.”

In the evening Mr Furbert will join singers Tricray Astwood and Steve Easton. The first pitch will then be thrown by Mr Caisey.

Mr Furbert said: “All five cities we’ll visit during the road show are essential markets for Bermuda, particularly in the upcoming summer months during the island’s high season.

“We very much look forward to networking with travel agents and consumers, while elevating awareness of Bermuda’s exquisite travel product, summer deals, and close proximity to each target market.”

The promotion will also include an exclusive media luncheon at the Boston College Club, and a travel agent dinner at Boston’s award-winning Top of the Hub restaurant atop the Prudential Tower.

Mr Furbert is also scheduled to talk up Bermuda tomorrow morning on WZLX FM’s Karlson and McKenzie show – one of Boston’s most popular radio shows.

After Boston, the Department of Tourism representatives will attend similar events in Old Greenwich, Connecticut, New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, DC from May 15-16.

You can watch the Red Sox game promotions on the New England Sports Network (NESN). Check local listings.
