THURSDAY, JUNE 28: Dozens of local models will take to the runway next weekend for the second annual Evolution Fashion Show.

The event will be filled with glitz and glamour.

But have you ever wondered what it takes to put on a show of such magnitude?

Planning for the show began in January and it will take days to set up.

It will be held on July 7 outside of City Hall.

We spoke to director Danilee Trott for a behind the scenes look at putting the show together.

“The City Fashion Festival is a week-long fashion event on a scale that Bermuda has never seen before.

“The two shows alone are of international standard that we are proud of as a completely local fashion production.

“The Hair and Beauty Showcase which is on July 4th at Harbour Nights at 7:30pm will represent Bermuda salons in a whole new light.

“You will see that our hair stylists are capable of more than just a cut and blow dry.

“You will experience extravagant and creative hair styles, as well as detailed make up artistry and body art by local artists.

“It will be a fun atmosphere for people of all ages.

“The Independence Day theme challenges the hair stylists to get even more creative and at the end of the show the body painters will engage in a competition where the audience will choose their favourite to receive a prize.”

Ms Trott’s team consists of a producer, the City of Hamilton, co-director Lamont Robinson, administrative assistant Tamara Bradshaw, props manager/technical assistant Quincy Santucci along with the JaKoMa team, communications manager Aderonke Bademosi-Wilson, runway assistants Stacy Dawson and Amon Butler, backstage assistant Miguel Estrella, events coordinator Thomas Lightbourne, Great Sound for lighting, sound and audio visual, stage manager Laurel Burns and graphic designers SJD World.

The team’s day to day tasks leading up to the show including designing the look of the week and each individual show, auditions and cuts, designing props, choosing and mixing music, coordination makeup and hair styles, organizing staff and volunteers and much more.

This year, there are a total of 150 models, 35 children and 115 adults.

“We rehearse six hours a week, every Tuesday and Sunday from May to June and the week leading up to the show, we have rehearsal every night for at least three hours, sometimes it goes longer.

“We rehearse for an estimated total of around 60 hours for the show over the course of two months.”

Ms Trott said the fashion show would be an event you don’t want to miss as it has 150 models and tons of surprises.

“This is an event Bermuda will be talking about for the next year.

“Evolution is more than just a fashion show, it's a production.

“The team and the models have put a lot of time, effort and hard work in heels to make this show jaw-dropping.

“We have 23 retailers, four salons and with makeup by MAC expect nothing less than amazing.

“We have fun scenes, dramatic scenes and runway scenes, there's a little something for everybody not just those into fashion.

“Without giving anything away, we are taking this show to new heights.”

The show is on July 7 and starts at 7:30pm.
