TUESDAY, MAY 1: In Motion School of Dance will be celebrating its 15th anniversary with a special showcase called In The News.

This year’s show opens on Friday night at City Hall and runs until May 14.

Lizz Pimentel, owner and director of In Motion, said: “This is our 15th showcase and we feel like they’ve only gotten better as time has gone on.

“We have added more elements every year and this year we have bigger set pieces, more dynamic staging, and some of the best choreography that we’ve seen on the local stage.

“The show is a dance tribute to the news, events and people that shape our world.

“This is our eighth themed show and they have been a huge success.

“Themed shows allow our dancers to show off their skills in a theatrical and fun way. When we started we weren’t sure how people would react to a themed show but our success has seen other local dance schools using the idea for their shows.”

Pimentel said In Motion’s annual performance is part of the dancers’ education and is an extension of benefits derived from dance and theatre training.

As part of their participation, dancers learn stage presence, cooperation and projection of their individual personalities in a safe and nurturing environment.

“Performance is vital to a dancer’s development and In Motion is proud to offer an opportunity for all of our dancers from toddler to adult to experience the joy of performance and to flourish as performers.

“Our shows are not just looked forward to by the dancers and their families but by the dance community at large.”

As for the dancers, she said: “Throughout the choreographic and rehearsal process, our dancers have shown a maturity and dedication that should be commended and recognized.

“We have company dancers that put in more than 20 hours a week to their training in addition to all of their school work.”

“We feel that what we are doing is vital to Bermuda right now.

“With so much press about antisocial behaviour in our youth we feel that providing a positive and disciplined environment is important to our future.”
