Iron Kids to get new route
More than 200 kids are expected to signup for the island's largest triathlon solely for children.
The 21st annual Iron Kids will be held on saturday, June 12 at Clearwater Beach, but for the first time the bike and run courses will go through the Cooper's Island Reserve.
Previously, this area had been off limits to residents so it will add a new twist to an old favourite.
Registration for the race opened on last Wednesday with early registration ending on June 3.
Those signing up by June 3 will be eligible for a draw for a new bike from Bicycle Works. the company will be giving away two bikes.
Registration can be completed three ways:
1. Online via the Iron Kids website capitalgironkids.bm.
2. Download a registration form on the Iron Kids website and deposit your form in registration boxes located at Capital G Bank, 19 Reid Street or at Sportseller in the Washington Mall.
3. Collect a registration form in-person from Capital G Bank, Sportseller or Bicycle Works located at 13 Tumpkins Lane off Serpentine Road in Hamilton.
Registration fees are $10 for children 7 years through 14 years old and $5 for children 3 to 6 years old.
The children will compete with the hopes of winning up to $1,000 in the form of a 5-year Time Deposit Account provided by Capital G Bank and intended for use toward the winners' college or university education.
Also held on Iron Kids day, parents and children alike enjoy the Tiny Tots fun for children ages 3 to 6 years of age.
The official triathlon will start at 3pm with festivities and entertainment beginning at 12 noon and continuing throughout the day.
HOTT 107.5 is scheduled to do live remote feeds from Clearwater Beach.
Carnival entertainment includes magic tricks, a DJ, temporary air brush tattoos, water tag, fun castles and a variety of food vendors will offer food and drinks.
