Mixed media show explores our unique boating heritage
WEDNESDAY, SEP. 26: A collaborative exhibition exploring Bermuda’s boating heritage is to go on show at the Common Ground Café.
Bermuda Native composed by Ami Zanders expresses the Mixed Media Collaborative Collection that she and collaborator Milton Hill, who recently survived a serious boating accident at Devonshire Bay, have been creating together.
The combination of Zanders’ talent in silk screening and Hill’s mastery of cedar carving offers a uniquely Bermudian experience.
In exploring the word “Native” The artists found themselves embracing various interpretations.
Bermuda has developed its own unique aspects of boating, natural habitat, language and ethnic blends.
Curator, Susan A. Pearson, of Select Palette Art explained that the show further evolved into a celebration of a culturally competent society.
Additional works are offered by Ronnie Chameau, Keitha Bassett, Cathy Ann Hansey, Mark Henderson and Kendra L. Earls.
Another special contribution is being made to the Bermuda Native show is the mural Homage to Picasso’s Three Musicians located on Chancery Lane opposite Common Ground café — the work is now available on canvas.
Picasso’s cubist movement was greatly inspired by a Parisian Salon Exhibition of African masks.
The mural was originally painted during Cup Match in 2006 by mother and daughter, Susan Amy and Shelley Anna Pearson.
Recently, Susan Pearson revised and rendered the image to 30 x 30”.
The Archival Giclee Canvas Prints with Contemporary 1¾” wrapped wood edging are available for $800 each.
The proceeds of these limited edition images will go directly to the Food Bank Programme at Wesley Methodist Church which continues to provide a highly needed and graciously received service.
Guests are invited to linger over the eclectic combination of cedar and mosaic sculptures, contemporary cubist paintings, Giclee Archival Prints and Natural Fiber inlay works by established and emerging artists.
The exhibition hopes to captivate the Bermuda Native in all of us.
Opening Night is Thursday from 5:30-7pm at Common Ground Café, 11 Chancery Lane. For Questions or information contact Susan A. Pearson, Select Palette Art, [email protected] 505-4290. The Show runs through November 28.
