Parking rates in Hamilton to rise; City to stop using voucher booklets
MONDAY, FENRUARY 28: Parking in Hamilton will be more expensive on Monday as the Corporation seeks to increase its revenue.
The city is also phasing out the use of voucher parking booklets.
Starting on March 7, parking on the street will cost 25 cents more per hour while parking in car parks will be 50 cents more an hour.
Ed Benevides, COO and secretary for the Corporation of Hamilton, said: “At the end of last year we announced rate changes for trucks and vans.
“We also indicated that the parking rates for cars would also increase at the beginning of this year.
“Rates in all city parking lots and on the street are affected.”
Street parking will now be $2 and hour.
All day parking will be increased by $2 a day.
Mr. Benevides added: “We encourage the general public to purchase the Easy Pay parking metres.
“Once the current supply of parking voucher booklets is depleted we will not order new stock. This means the use of the Easy Park electronic metres will become mandatory in the City of Hamilton.
“The metres can be purchased and topped up at City Hall and other locations around the island.”
In Number 8 parking lot, the cost is currently $1 per hour. It will go up to $1.50.
Parking in Bull’s Head will be $7 per day, up from $5.
The increase is expected to garner $1.2 million more in revenue per year for the Corporation.
