Parliamentarians show flair for fashion

Governor Sir Richard Gozney wore his traditional white military dress and hat with ostrich feathers. He arrived at the Cabinet grounds in a horse-drawn carriage.

The Governor’s first duty of the day was to inspect the Bermuda Regiment.

His wife, Lady Gozney, also arrived in a carriage, dressed in a cream-and-gold brocade suit with a cream hat.

Bermudians lined Parliament Street outside the Cabinet grounds to watch the ceremony take place. The Regiment band played in the background as the crowd waited for the parliamentarians to arrive.

After inspecting the Regiment, Sir Richard told the Black Rod to escort the MPs to the Cabinet.

“I command you to inform the Speaker that I request the presence of the honourable members of the house forthwith,” he said.

The senators came out first.

Newly appointed Attorney General Kim Wilson wore a cream-and-gold dress with a cream sweater and a cream-and-green hat.

Members of Parliament came shortly after with Premier Paula Cox leading the way. She wore a black suit with white trim and a green fascinator and purse.

Government Whip Lovitta Foggo was dressed in a navy suit without a traditional hat.

Dame Jennifer Smith looked lovely in a purple dress, brown hat, pumps, gloves and clutch.

Patrice Minors was dressed in a red patterned suit with a black fascinator and high heels.

Neletha Butterfield wore a silver headpiece with a light purple suit and silver shoes.

Meanwhile, the men wore a variety of mainly dark-coloured suits with green, red, purple and even silver ties. Cole Simons was the exception with a bow tie.

Patricia Gordon-Pamplin wore a light green suit with a navy hat and shoes.

Louise Jackson wore a hot pink suit with a black hat, purse and shoes.

And UBP Leader Kim Swan was dressed in a top hat and tails.

The speech lasted about an hour with dignitaries, members of the judiciary, members of the clergy and more invited guests seated under a tent on the grounds.
