People flock to see affordable housing
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17: More than 150 people visited an open house day at a new development of affordable housing in Warwick.
Would-be home buyers flocked to the site to view the selection of two and three bedroom apartments at Grand Atlantic, the first of which will be available at the end of next month.
Bermuda Housing Corporation general manager Major Barrett Dill said: “There’s clearly a demand out there for more affordable housing of this kind.
“We had a real cross-section – seniors, young people and couples. Every person I spoke to was extremely positive. They were very impressed with the presentation and quite a few said they would be buying as soon as they can.
“I’m extremely pleased by the turnout and the interest shown by all those who showed up.”
Major Dill added that even bad weather early on did not dent enthusiasm for a look at the new homes.
He said: “The weather did clear up in the afternoon, but it didn’t appear to deter people at all.”
Representatives from lending agencies were also available to assist with mortgage inquiries from potential customers.
Grand Atlantic, near the Swizzle Inn on South Road, Warwick, will have a total of 86 apartments when fully completed.
The development is next to the Southlands Park, soon to be designated Bermuda’s newest national park, and also has access to south shore beaches.
Residents at the new development will have guaranteed access to park and beach areas.
Prices at the site range from $495,000 for a two bedroom apartment up to $670,000 for an Ocean View three bedroom apartment.
