WEDNESDAY, JAN. 18: Former Premier Sir John Swan is to host a town hall-style meeting on the state of Bermuda’s economy tomorrow.

Sir John and Larry Burchall, a Bermuda Sun columnist, will discuss their blueprint for getting the Bermuda economy back on track.

This includes making Bermuda more attractive to foreign investors by easing off restrictions on residency and home ownership and resuming grants of Bermuda status to suitable candidates.

The two argue that company incorporations should also include immigration approval in principle for key employees to reassure potential investors and the end of term limits on work permits.

The proposals also include payroll tax holidays for firms employing full-time Bermudian workers and for the self-employed earning less than $50,000 a year.

The meeting will be held between noon and 2pm on Thursday, January 19 at the City Hall Theatre in Hamilton.
