Some Like It Hot fashion show a sizzling affair
SATURDAY, APRIL 7: Glitz and glamour filled the Poinciana Ballroom at the Fairmont Southampton Resort last night for the Some Like It Hot fashion show.
The UK Sun’s celebrity photographer Dave Hogan snapped the guests as they arrived and mingled at the pre-cocktail party.
Bermudian designers, including 27th Century Boutique and Shay Ford, did the island proud showing alongside designers from London, the Bahamas and New York.
The collections incorporated floaty summer dresses, nautical themes, big hats and snazzy cocktail dresses with a modern twist.
Mario Dismont, under Spectrum Productions, staged a show of international standards hosted by the feisty firecracker Phyllis Garraway. She dared the audience to be sexy, confident and beautiful.
“If you can’t let your hair down,” she growled, “we say take it off!”
A highlight of the show was a stunning 7ft 2in model who towered above her runway companions with confidence and grace. Every time she took to the stage, the members of the audience clapped in amazement.
Unfortunately, the majority of the ballroom was empty – perhaps Bermudians are not feeling flush enough to splash out $100 for a ticket in this difficult economy.
No doubt the event ran at a loss which is a great shame. I wonder whether cheaper tickets might have attracted more guests.
There were perhaps 200 people, including Premier Paula Cox. While the ballroom was near empty, there was still a lively atmosphere created by the few who were there.
