Supermart bids to open sidewalk dining area
Supermart on Front Street has applied for planning permission to create a sidewalk patio outside its front doors.
Tables and chairs will be placed to the left and right of the main entrance, inside a porch enclosed by wooden balustrade fencing.
The concrete floor would be replaced by decorative brick and timber posts will be placed along the upper balcony.
Shoppers can use the 9ft wide areas on either side of the entrance to eat food from the store’s hot buffet and salad bar.
Adwick Planning has applied to the Planning Department on behalf of Supermart general manager Tredick Gorham.
The application proposes “cosmetic improvements to the existing shop front, including decorative brick flooring over the area beneath the existing canti-levered balcony, to provide an attractive space where patrons of the food bar can sit and eat their meal”.
Peter Adwick believes the plans will improve the building’s “rather utilitarian appearance”. His application states: “The result of these shop front improvements would be significant to enhance the appearance, not just of the building, but of this end of Front Street.
“We hope you will include this application in the fast-track process. Our client is anxious to proceed with these improvements as soon as possible.”
Mr. Gorham was not available for comment yesterday.
