FRIDAY, DEC. 16: Bermuda High School teachers dressed as elves, celebrities and superheroes yesterday as part of a fundraising effort.
The idea was to sell vouchers to students to make their teachers dress up. As more money was raised, so the costumes their teachers would have to wear became sillier and increasingly embarrassing.
On Thursday morning, normally staid and strict teachers put their smart teaching clothes aside and donned costumes such as munchkins, Shrek, Marilyn Monroe, a fairy and batman.
What started out as a fun idea to raise money for the bursary fund for Bermuda High School students by secondary teacher Paula Harrison, became a superb success, raising over $1,000 dollars for less fortunate students who attend the school.
In all, 30 teachers dressed up, much to the amusement of their students. “It’s hard to teach science when I’m dressed like this,” admitted a six-foot male teacher, who was dressed as a nun.
The Head of School, Linda Parker (dressed as an elf) said. “It is heart-warming to see what administration and teachers will do to raise funds for such a worthy cause. It shows an unwavering commitment to promote an inclusive environment”, she said.
The bursary fund is supported by students, teachers and parents and includes many events such as a trivia quiz.
