This is television for all of mankind
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 14:
Mankind: The Story of All of US – new series, Tuesdays, at 10pm on History Channel:
This epic series, which has been more than two years in the making, is History Channel’s most in-depth television project ever, chronicling the greatest adventure of all time — the history of the human race.
Narrated by critically-acclaimed actor and Oscar nominee, Josh Brolin, the production features six episodes, each two hours in length.
Follow this journey through time and marvel at the events that marked our history, including: the discovery of farming techniques; the sacking of Rome; empire-building under Genghis Kahn; the invention of movable type; the exploration of the New World; the fall of the Aztec Empire; the birth of the Industrial Revolution; exploring space; re-engineering the human body, and so much more.
Hollywood Unzipped: Stylist Wars – premieres Tuesday, November 27 at 11pm on Oxygen:
This new series takes viewers behind the runways and underneath the red carpet, following the lives of four up-and-coming fashion stylists working in the shark-infested, cutthroat world of fashion. Taylor Jacobson (The Rachel Zoe Project and Oxygen’s Hair Battle Spectacular) is an over-the-top workaholic who has collected an impressive list of clients, which he fiercely protects from rival stylists. Brett Alan Nelson would rather die than find one of his clients on a worst-dressed list, so he lives in a round-the-clock frenzy of work, putting his own spin on every look. Sammy and Judy (aka The Kids) are a fashion double threat, stylists to the ‘It List’ of hip young Hollywood and they’re picking up lots of interest from the Los Angeles fashion scene.
It’s a take-no-prisoners world, with all of them frantically trying to claw their way to the top.
Love You, Mean It, with Whitney Cummings – Premieres Wednesday, November 28, at 11:30pm on E! HD:
Returning to her stand-up comedy roots, Whitney Cummings, co-creator of 2 Broke Girls, is about to debut her new talk show, which is being described as an open forum for the comedian to discuss her favourite topics, which include pop culture and celebrity happenings, life, and relationships.
She’s joined by stand-up comedian Julian McCullough as her sidekick. He’s performed on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, NPR’s This American Life, and is also the host of TBS’ Very Funny News and part of the cast on MTV2’s hit series Guy Code.
The show is co-produced by E!’s current late-night talk show queen, Chelsea Handler, whose show Chelsea Lately has had Cummings on as a regular panelist.
The Hour – Season Premiere, Wednesday, November 28 at 10pm, on BBC America:
This groundbreaking drama series, now back for a second season, is set in London in the late 1950s world of television news production.
Nominated for both Golden Globe and Emmy Awards, the mini-series has been described by the Los Angeles Times as “expertly constructed and wonderfully acted.”
The Atlantic had this to say: “The Hour is not the British Mad Men. It’s better.”
In this instalment, we re-join the trio of passionate, sharp-witted news producers, Freddie (Ben Whishaw, Skyfall), Bel (Romola Garai, The Crimson Petal and the White) and Hector (Dominic West, The Wire) who now have a new, eccentric Head of News, Randall Brown (Peter Capaldi, The Thick of It).
This season, the personal collides with the professional as the characters become deeply embroiled in cover-ups, corruption, love affairs and sexual intrigues.
