Here are just a few.
• Martha Stewart’s Cooking School — new series – Sundays, 5pm, on PBS/PBS HD:
Even if you haven’t read the domestic diva’s bestselling book by the same name, you can now tune in weekly to this new how-to series based on Martha’s Stewart’s Cooking School. • My Shopping Addiction – new series – premieres Tuesday, October 16, 12 midnight, on Oxygen:
This new late-night reality show promises to bring us an up-close-and personal look at the lives of young people in meltdown mode due to their dangerous addiction to spending. Watch these out-of-control shoppers regain some sanity as a clinical psychologist intervenes and forces them to face their issues head-on.
• The Houstons: On Our Own – premieres Wednesday, October 24, 10pm, on Lifetime:
This new reality show follows family and friends left behind by Whitney Houston’s untimely death. Her daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, and other grieving family members are doing their best to pick up the pieces and cope with the loss of their loved one. The series will feature Whitney Houston’s sister-in-law/manager, Pat, and her daughter Rayah; Houston’s brother, Gary and mother Cissy; and Nick Gordon, a long-time family friend.
• Keyshia and Daniel: Family First – Tuesdays, 11pm, on BET:
Keyshia Cole’s top-rated reality series, The Way It Is, followed the rising R&B star’s transformation over a three-year period into a multi-platinum recording artist. Cameras were rolling when she re-married her NBA-star husband, Daniel Gibson, in Hawaii last year. Now we join Kieyshia again as she begins a new chapter of her life, as wife, and mother to the couple’s two-year-old son, DJ. She has also has a new recording project in the works, and we’ll go behind the scenes as she gets to work on it.
• Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition – new series – Tuesdays, 10pm, on Lifetime:
Abby Lee Miller, “Dance Moms” instructor, has a new reality show, along with Robin Antin, founder of Pussycat Dolls, and celebrity choreographer Richard Jackson. The trio teams up in this new series to judge 12 of the most talented girl and boy dancers (six- to 13-years-old) competing for a $100,000 cash prize and a scholarship to the prestigious Joffrey Ballet School in New York. Expect the cameras to capture plenty of moments when the dancers’ moms are ‘coaching’ their children, in that domineering, self-centered way that parents who live vicariously through their kids have perfected.
• Mash Up Comedy – new series – airs Wednesdays, 1:30am, on Comedy Central:
Okay, you late-nighters, here is something that may be worth staying up for. If your least-favourite part of stand-up comedy is the standing up, then this show will intrigue you. Comedian T.J. Miller and friends are bringing a whole new style to the genre with this new series, which adds an array of stylised visualisations that give new life to the jokes and creates a fresh experience in stand-up. “Mash Up” will feature sketch comedy and performances from some of today’s hottest comedians, including Hannibal Buress; Bryan Callen; Deon Cole; Chris D’Elia; Chris Hardwick; Jared Logan; Mary Lynn Rajskub; Reggie Watts, and the list goes on.
