Warwick Academy celebrates 350 years with LipDub film

THURSDAY, JUNE 28: Warwick Academy’s long-anticipated LipDub film is finally available to watch having premiered to students and teachers at the school this morning.

The Bermuda Sun has been given exclusive access to the film (below).

The film follows the format of the internet craze LipDub — set to music with the students lip-synching to songs. The main body of the project was filmed in just one single continuous shot. Meticulous planning and razor-sharp timing were needed to pull it off.

Over 1,000 students and teachers helped to create the film, which included horse riders, gymnasts, dancers, singers, musicians and much more. At the end of the 15-minute film the entire school population runs onto the sports field and forms the letters WA for Warwick Academy.

Maths teacher and head of Year 9 at the school Richard Cunningham came up with the idea to do the film after his previous school — Friends School in Ireland — did a similar project when he worked there.

After the premiere Mr Cunningham told the Bermuda Sun: “We were very touched this morning as the whole school were on their feet for an ovation at the end. We’re just super relieved it went so well!”

It was a fitting time to create such a momentous project as this year marks the school’s 350th anniversary. It is perhaps one of the most ambitious school film projects the island has ever seen.

The film is also available at www.warwickacad.bm and the Academy’s Virtual Learning Environment, and copies will eventually be available for sale on DVD. The film was made possible by North Rock sponsorship, Great Sound and Lighting, the Bermuda Train Company, and Renew.
