WEDNESDAY, JUNE 13: Bermuda’s young artists are to benefit from financial assistance that was made possible through the dissolution of the Bermuda Foundation for the Arts today.

The Foundation marked its end by presenting cash endowment funds and shares in Butterfield Bank to the newly formed Trust for All the Arts — a charity that assists local students studying the performing arts.

The foundation’s donation of $44k, as well as 4,817 shares will help to assist talented young Bermudians.

Foundation chair Louise Jackson told the press: “In recent years, the arts have made great strides in Bermuda. As a community, we are much more sensitive to the importance of promoting the arts in our schools and there are now numerous agencies granting financial support to teaching organizations and scholarships to promising young artists.

“After careful consideration, we made the decision to disband in favour of a like-minded charity, a merging of funds which might realise more productive results. Providentially, this decision coincided with the emergence of the Trust for All the Arts.”

Dick Butterfield, a trustee of the Trust for All the Arts said on accepting the donation: “This is a most welcome gift, and one that will make a difference in the number of students who are supported by the Trust for All the Arts. In recent years, we have witnessed an increase in young Bermudians pursuing careers in the performing arts. Many of them require financial assistance to do this.”

The Trust was recently able to assist a number of talented Bermudians including one who is pursuing a career as an opera singer, another is studying musical theatre at Edge Hill University and one who apprenticed during the past year with the Welsh Ballet.
