Young sailors help high school, college teams win regattas
Three young Bermudian students helped their school win the Mid Atlantic Fleet Racing Championships. Blake Burgess, Jono Dill and Joshua Greenslade were instrumental in leading Christ-church School in Virginia to the title. Burgess skippered the A Division team which had two firsts, two seconds and a third while Dill helmed the B Division team to two firsts, a third, fourth, and sixth. The Bermudians helped Christchurch win the Virginia State Championships earlier in the season.
College sailing
Outstanding performances by local sailors Sean Bouchard (Roger Williams University) and Peter Miller (Connecticut College) in the Freshman Intersectional College Championships held November 8 and 9 at Connecticut College propelled both their schools to first and second place finishes overall.
Bouchard and his crews placed first in the A-Division with Miller and his crew narrowly placing second in a tie break with the first place finisher in the B-Division. In addition to winning the event overall, Bouchard and the Squad from RWU were named Sailors of the Week by the New England Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association for their strong performance.
Ironman
A trio of residents more than held their own at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships last weekend. Karen Smith and Karen Bordage finished second and fourth respectively in the 40 to 44 women's age group while Julia Hawley was 12th in the 45 to 49 age group. The Championships took place in Clearwater, Florida.
BAC 5k
The BAC Kool Running 5k is scheduled for this Sunday at 9am from BAC at Mills Creek. The entry is $25 or $20 for MAAC members and $10 for juniors. Registration forms are available at the Sportseller.
Bacardi 8k
The second annual Bacardi 8k road race is scheduled for 8:30am on Sunday, November 23. This race is for adults only. The entry deadline is Wednesday, November 19 and number pickup and late registration will be at Bacardi headquarters on Friday, November 21 from noon to 5pm and Saturday from 8am to noon. Registration may also be made online at www.maac.bm. The entry fee is $20.[[In-content Ad]]
