Kyrah Scraders impressed with a huge new personal best at the World Youth Championships in Ukraine on Thursday.
The 16-year-old Bermudian ran a time of 2:08.91 in the 800 metres, topping her previous best of 2:10.93. She placed third overall in her heat and is currently ranked eighth out of 29 athletes.
Her time puts her in the semi-finals with a chance to advance to the finals.
Scraders is one of Bermuda’s brightest young track stars. Earlier in the year she earned a silver medal in the Bahamas at the 2013 Carifta Games in the 1500 metres. Her performance gave her three straight podium finishes in three straight Carifta Games with a silver in 2012 and a bronze in 2011.
After the World Youth Championships Scraders will return home, prepared to tackle older and more experienced competition at the 2013 Island Games.
