Bermuda’s Under-20 Women’s team were beaten 7-0 by Jamaica in the opening Group 4 CFU Qualifying Tournament game on Tuesday.
Jamaica wasted little time establishing control of the match, racing to a 6-0 lead after only 36 minutes of play in front of the home crowd. Bermuda was reduced to 10 players after 13 minutes of play when Precious Cooper was shown a straight red for a foul just outside the Bermuda penalty area.
Bermuda regrouped at half time and played better in the second half, despite being a player short. Jamaica would manage only to add one more goal to the scoreline in the second half.
It is a slow start that could haunt Bermuda in their bid to progress beyond this stage of qualifying. The Bermuda team, coached by Naquita Robinson and containing seven members from the gold medal-winning Island Games team, must beat Cuba on Thursday to have any chance of advancing out of their group.
