Former New England Patriot’s tight end Aaron Hernandez was taken into custody this week and charged with first-degree murder for the death of Odin Lloyd.
Immediately after his arrest, the Patriots released the 23-year-old star.
As well as the murder charge, Hernandez was also charged with five firearm-related charges and is being held without bail.
Hernandez pleaded not guilty to all six charges.
Hernandez launched a bail appeal that was heard yesterday but denied by the Fall River Superior Court.
The New England Patriots released a statement regarding their release of Hernandez in light of his arrest and charges: “A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss.
“Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation. We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process.
“At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do.”
