David Simons is glad he didn’t.
The 34-year-old accountant from Devonshire instead headed to Riddell’s Bay to practice the swing he and Port Royal coach Kim Swan had been working on.
The result: a spectacular hole-in-one at the 110-yard par three 11th.
Simons said: “I hit a gap wedge with a 50mph wind behind me — after the ball had blown off the tee a couple of times.
“As soon as I hit it I saw it was going on line. I saw the wind carry it a good distance and it bounced on the front of the green and then once or twice — I then started to yell at it to get in the hole.”
Simons started playing just four years ago, a surprising late starter considering his grandfather was one of the founders of Ocean View.
He’s enlisted the help of Swan the past year to improve his game — and his tutor was suitably pleased with the weekend ace.
Swan said: “David is a great guy who is working hard on his game.
“I was excited when I heard he got a hole in one in all that wind. We have been working hard on wind shots recently — not that we’ve had much choice!” n
