Sir Ben Ainslie, in Bermuda recently for the Gold Cup, has been eying up inspiration from Formula One as he continues his attempts to get a British-funded America’s Cup team together.
Sir Ben, who masterminded Team Oracle’s stunning comeback in this year’s America’s Cup, was in the Abu Dhabi pitlane recently and was said to have held talks with Red Bull’s technical guru Adrian Newey.
Newey said recently: “At some stage, I’m not exactly sure when, I do feel it will be time to become involved in other things.
“The America’s Cup, who knows?”
Sir Ben told BBC Radio 2: “He would be amazing.” He added the sport deals more with the “aerodynamics now with the wing technology that has come in.
“So it would be that kind of design experience which would be crucial.”
